UAM Diesel Academy Students Set To Graduate from Former Racetrack Facility

April 6th, 2017 by

IMG_1789The UAM College of Technology-McGehee will award certificates of proficiency and technical certificates this summer to the first graduates of the school’s Diesel Training Academy located south of Monticello on U.S. Highway 425.

In addition to becoming a diesel technician, the program also prepares students to operate tractor-trailers and sit for the Arkansas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

The program includes 14 courses taken over three semesters covering both classroom work, diesel shop performance, and a combination of closed course training and open road operation. Completion of six selected courses will result in a certificate of proficiency while completion of all 14 courses will earn a technical certificate in diesel technology.

Pictured from left Instructor George Venable of Dumas, Kathy Baker of Lake Village, Bryan Seals of Arkansas City, Hunter Webb of Monticello, Terrall Johnson of McGehee, and Fredrick Fells of Dumas. Baker, Seals and Johnson are scheduled to complete the program this summer.

Students can begin classes at the beginning of the fall, spring or summer semester. For more information, contact Cyrus Vance, director of student services at the UAM College of Technology-McGehee at (870) 460-2103.
