At Tuesday night’s called Monticello School Board meeting, the board voted 4-0 in favor of hiring Jim Lucas as the principal for Monticello High School.

Mr. Lucas was hired as interim principal, last year, and will now become the ongoing MHS principal.

A memorial service will be held for Debbie Rausch, Friday, May 3 at 5 pm, in the Hamburg City Hall Courtroom.

A time of personal memories about Debbie from friends, co-workers, and family will be welcome.

The Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports the needs and research of the Arkansas Children’s Hospital, received a $7,500 grant from the Plum Creek Foundation to support “Arts in Education,” a program to help sick or injured children cope with their hospitalization through art projects that are part of their schooling.

After years of operating on a “handshake agreement”, the county and city will now support the local museum by means of a services contract, like other local organizers receive, for the educational and historic service that the museum provides to county residents, schools, and organizations.

Former police dispatcher and jail matron, Debbie Rausch, passed away Wednesday.

Ms. Rausch served law enforcement agencies in Hamburg, Crossett, and Monticello.

Tally Kilgore made his Journey home complete at 1:00AM Tuesday morning. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 62 years Helen Kilgore and daughter Sharon Lewis. He leaves behind six wonderful daughters, five sons as well as a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Viewing will be on Sunday, April 28th from 3-4pm followed by the Funeral Service at 4pm at Revival Center Church of God In Christ in Monticello. Internment will be at Haly Cemetery. Services entrusted to Christian Brothers Funeral Home of Monticello http://www.christianbrothersfuneralhome.com/

According to Lt. Jason Akers of the Tenth Drug Task Force, a 52 year old Monticello man was arrested by Drug Task Force Agents last week, and faces felony narcotics charges after what Agents suspect to be methamphetamine was located inside his vehicle on a traffic stop.

On Wednesday evening, April 10, around 6 pm, Monticello Police received a call from a local woman, reporting that she had been threatened by four suspects from Dumas on a local church parking lot.  One of them allegedly pointed a handgun at her, through her vehicle window.

Courtney Breedlove, daughter of Monty and Tina Meek of Monticello and Joe and Toni Breedlove of Hamburg and Shane Hale, son of Bill and Donna Hale, formerly of Dermott, were married in a small garden wedding on April 21st, at the Trotter House.

Around 1 pm, the driver of a southbound Pontiac GTO was attempting to turn east, from HWY 425 onto HAY 278, when turned in from of a Volkswagen Passat , which was northbound.

SEEMS transported both driver to Drew Memorial Hospital.

Monticello Police worked the accident. 

Reliable Towing and C&L Wrecker removed the vehicles.

As the Monticello community met for the annual Easter Community Service recently, many familiar faces were present.

There was a new face, who was introduced as a part of the program, to sing “How Great Thou Art”, before the message.

Sarah Beth Pippen, the worship leader at Immanuel Baptist Church,  then led the room into worship, as she followed with a strong, spirit-filled rendition of the old, familiar hymn.

Concrete has been poured this week for seven of the piers of the new livestock barn at the Drew County Fairgrounds.

The new barn is expected to be completed by the County Fair in September.

Madelynn Gates has been chosen as a Razorback Cheerleader for the 2013-2014 season.

This will be Madelynn’s 2nd year to cheer for the University of Arkansas.
