Published by News Release September 1st, 2008 in Announcements.Due to a recent loss of pressure, Yorktown Water Association is issuing Boil Water Order for customers in Drew County, who live on or near Old HWY 13 south of 5 Mile Hill, and also HWY 35 West.
Water should boiled 3-5 minutes for human consumption.

Thanks for letting us know about the boil order, it is late Monday evening and this is the first I have heard of it. Too bad customer service is not important when your customer doesn’t have a choice about where they spend their money.
I just spoke with a customer service representative and she confirmed that if ANYONE lost their water over the weekend that they should boil it at least 3 to 5 minutes until at least Friday, Sept 5th or until an announcemnet has been made to the media.
Its pretty sorry when you call and can’t get anyone to answer the phone and all you get is a recording. No one can even call you back to let you know what’s going on. It would have been nice to have known about a boil order before Monday night. Yorktown Water should have some way to inform customers of such information, I would also like to know why we can’t get on Monticello water since it would be a whole lot closer than Yorktown water.
RL, I totally agree. They need to let us know something. They could leave a message on the answering machine saying, “We are aware of the problem” or “Boil your water until further notice.” It is a basic matter of a lack of choice. They know we have no where else to go, so they don’t care. I actually called the Monticello Water Office today checking into annexation. They told me that since Yorktown owned the water lines, that if Monticello were to offer water in the area, the city would have to lay new water lines. They asked me if I wanted to talk to the mayor’s office and I said not at this time. If interest is high, it might be something the residents in the area could petition the city about or at least schedule a meeting. I would much rather spend my money closer to home in Drew County. As far as Monticello supplying the area, I don’t think distance is an issue. I grew up down Midway Route and we lived about 10 miles out of town and got city water when I was a kid.
