Watch D.O.G.S program comes to MIS with kickoff event October 9
Published by Jeff October 2nd, 2007 in Monticello School News.
Dads, grandfathers, and father-figures will converge on Monticello Intermediate School Tuesday, October 9 for a Dads & Kids Pizza Event at 6:00 p.m. The one-hour gathering will kick off the Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) program at MIS.
Watch D.O.G.S. is an innovative program of the National Center for Fathering which focuses on the prevention of school violence by using the positive influence of fathers and father-figures for a two-fold purpose:
- to provide an unobtrusive presence in the schools, and
- to be a positive role and active role model for students at their school.
The program was founded by Jim Moore, a concerned father who chose to take action in response to a 1998 middle school shooting in Jonesboro.
National director Scott Huse will be the guest speaker at the MIS event. Students will be allowed to participate in supervised fun and activity while Huse presents the goals and motivation behind the organization.
