Volunteers needed for Drew County Relay for Life

December 3rd, 2009 by Submitted

The American Cancer Society is currently searching for volunteers for the Drew County Relay. Whether you have fifteen minutes, one hour, five hours or a whole day during the week to volunteer, we need your help. There are many volunteer activities and opportunities available through Relay for Life and we will work with you to find one that suits your individual needs and interests.

In 2009 The Drew County Relay raised in excess of $45,000.00 for the American Cancer Society. The 2010 Relay will be held April 23 & 24 at McCloy Park and we are looking for help to make this the best ever. There will be a planning meeting on December 8, 2009 at noon in the dining room of Union Bank. Lunch will be provided. We would encourage anyone that is interested to contact Sandra Norris – Event Chairman at 723-2920 and to plan to attend the meeting.

Relay for Life began with one man in Tacoma, Washington in 1985 and is now a worldwide movement to end cancer, with events across America that raised a total of $420 million dollars in 2009. These funds help the American Cancer Society achieve their mission of eliminating cancer as a major health concern.

In every Relay for Life event, we celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer through our Survivor’s Lap and survivor recognition. The strength of survivors inspires others to continue to fight. We also remember loved ones lost to the disease, and those who have survived and are currently battling cancer with our LUminaria Ceremony. At Relay, people who have walked alongside those batling cancer can grieve and find healing. Finally, we fight back against cancer because we want to put an end to the disease. Relay helps individuals make a commitment to save lives by taking up the fight.

Help us create a world with less cancer and more birthdays by being a part of the Relay for Life Planning Committee.
