Virginia Murder Suspect Leads Police around Southeast Arkansas, before Arrest

Friday morning, the Arkansas State Police learned the a Virginia murder suspect was believed to be in southeast Arkansas. Here is the report from ASP’s Bill Sadler.
At approximately 7 AM Friday, June 26, 2015 Arkansas State Police became aware that a Virginia fugitive identified as Joshua Carroll Copeland, 31, may be in Arkansas.
Information from out of state law enforcement agencies reported that Copeland was driving a silver 2006 Dodge Charger and was the subject of a first degree murder warrant.
Copeland was taken into custody on U.S. Highway 65 about 11:45 AM north of Dumas, Arkansas Friday following a thirty minute pursuit that began near the Cleveland and Jefferson County line on U.S. Highway 63. The pursuit continued along a route onto I-530 south of Pine Bluff and ended after Copeland’s car crossed a law enforcement deployed spike strip which caused one tire to deflate.
Copeland lost control of the vehicle but was not injured. He was taken to the Dumas jail where he is being held on Arkansas charges of felony fleeing. Other charges may be formally filed Monday.
Virginia authorities were notified of Copeland’s arrest.
