V.F.W. application for liquor license denied
Published by Jeff November 17th, 2006 in News.At the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board meeting on Wednesday, November 15, the Monticello V.F.W.’s application for a liquor license was denied. The application made by Jerry Babin, Post Commander. According to the guidelines established by the ABC Board, the decision was made after reviewing input received from the community in the form of letters, an on-site inspection of the premises, and input received from local leaders and citizens.
Don Bennett, attorney for the ABC Board related that the director of the ABC Board made the decision based on input for and opposition against that was received from the community. Opposition was received from the mayor, sheriff, county judge, and a city alderman, and a resolution from the city council in opposition to the license was filed. In addition, a petition with 21 signatures from area residents was logged, as well as letters from three members of the community.
