Updated Information for Troops Return to Monticello-This Afternoon
Members of the 39th unit of the National Guard will returning to Monticello to spend a few days with their families, before returning to Camp Shelby, MS, and them being deployed to Iraq.
Charlsie Evans a spokesperson for the organizers of the trip, told MonticelloLive.com that the troops should be arriving in Monticello earlier that expected. The “Welcome Home” event had been planned for 5 p.m., but will be moved to 4 o’clock, if not earlier.
Two local VFW post representatives will stay overnight near Camp Shelby, and plan for the trip home to begin around 10 a.m.
The public is invited to attend the “Welcome Home” celebration, and welcome our troops back home, before they leave to spend time with their families.
Earlier plans had the leaving Monticello next Wednesday morning, but that has been advanced to a Monday departure, probably from the First Assembly of God Church. Once again, family members, friends and supporters are encouraged to come out and show your support for the Troops of the 39th.
