UAM’s Williams, Edwards Named GSC Players of the Week
Published by UAM News October 25th, 2007 in UAM Sports.University of Arkansas at Monticello players John L. Williams and Solomon Edwards were honored by the Gulf South Conference on Monday as the GSC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
Williams is the second UAM player to take home Offensive honors this season, claiming his third overall award in a 35-32 overtime victory at West Georgia. The senior snapped the Boll Weevils’ record for rushing yards in a game despite being injured in the fourth quarter, racking up 275 yards on 31 carries for an 8.9 yard per carry average. Williams also found the end zone three times led by a 40-yard scoring scamper in the second quarter. Williams’ rushing total was also the highest by a GSC player in a game since 2001.
Edwards is the first Boll Weevil defensive player to capture laurels this season, spearheading the UAM defense in the win. The junior racked up 10 total tackles led by six solo and was a frequent visitor in the UWG backfield, posting 4.5 tackles for a loss of 30 yards and 2.0 sacks for 14 yards. Edwards did not stop there, tallying two quarterback hurries and breaking up one pass.
The Boll Weevils will return to action on Thursday, October 25, as they travel to Livingston, Ala. to face the West Alabama Tigers in the Gulf South Conference Game of the Week. The game will be televised on Cox Sports/CSS, broadcast live on KHBM-FM 93.7 in Monticello, and simulcast online at www.uamsports.com.
