newell-mike.JPGHead men’s basketball coach at the University of Arkansas at Monticello Mike Newell is set to host eight sessions of basketball camp this upcoming summer – one on the UAM campus.

The UAM session is scheduled for July 31-August 2 in the Steelman Fieldhouse. The three-day camp will start each day at 11 a.m. and last until 5 p.m.

Each session will only accept 90 campers so that a qualified instructor can teach a maximum of 15 players. The camp is equivalent to six three-hour practice sessions, where there is 100 percent teaching – meaning no games are played.

In addition, the camp’s goals are to teach the basic fundamentals of basketball, develop the beginner, and improve the established player.

All sessions are open to boys and girls ages 7-18. Tuition for each of Newell’s sessions this summer is $215 per camper. Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt and is allowed to bring snacks and drinks.

Newell is also hosting two sessions at Jessieville High School in Jessieville, Buffalo Island Central High School in Monette, and Texas High in Texarkana. In addition to those three locations, Newell will host one session at George Junior High School in Springdale.

For a registration form for the UAM session, visit uamsports.com and click “Athletic Camps” in the left-hand column or contact Newell at (870) 460-1258. For the other seven sessions, contact Newell by phone.

Hey, I had a wonderful time while I was at camp, you should remember me cause I herd you say that I was the best left hand dribbler out their. When we played against the college kids I’m not going to lie it was hard a little but I liked it alot. I’m impressed that you still take on that event over there in Monticello. Are you still going to have basketball camp again this next year, cause if you are I’ll be back over there
