The Southeast Education Renewal Zone (ERZ) Office is hosting the UAM/ERZ High School Redesign Science Best Practice Day on February 6, 2008.  The ERZ along with University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) and the local school districts are working collaboratively to promote Rigor, Relevance and Relationships in southeast Arkansas classrooms.

The High School Redesign focus is to reduce the achievement gap, increase graduation rates, improve access to postsecondary education, and ultimately help students succeed as economically secure adults.  The goal of the UAM/ERZ High School Redesign Science Best Practice Day is to create a culture for high school and university faculty to better understand the challenges confronted in both environments and to successfully deliver rigorous content to students.

The UAM/ERZ High School Redesign Science Best Practice Day will begin with area high school science teachers visiting the UAM science classes which begin at 8:10 am.  At 11:00 am the high school teachers will join with the UAM science professors to build relationships to assist with the success of the students and to become aware o the resources available from the school districts and the university.  The group will have lunch and then break into round-table discussions according to content.  The day will conclude with the visitation of UAM Science Lab classes.

If you would like more information concerning the Science Best Practice Day, please contact the Southeast ERZ Office 460-1613 (Mary Jo Barnett, Director) or 460-1796 (Tracie Jones, Assistant Director).
