UAM to offer special education program
Published by Jeff November 2nd, 2006 in News, Schools.Licensed P-4 teachers can now take 18 hours of graduate level courses to receive licensure in P-4 early childhood special education. Students must be admitted to UAM and to the School of Education’s graduate program to be eligible to take the courses.
“Special education is one of the critical need content areas in southeast Arkansas,” said Doss. “There is a tremendous shortage of licensed special education teachers in this area of the state. This program will serve a critical need for our public schools and students.”

They have just now realized that we have a shortage. We just got rid of a program that enabled undergrad P-4 education students to be dually license. There was not much of a want there, but we think people will come back for a master’s in special education. I think the state should look at getting the K-6 licensure back. That would probably be more beneficial.
