The University of Arkansas at Monticello summer jazz camp will kick off with a free public concert by the Arkansas Jazz Orchestra on July 14 at 7 p.m. in the UAM Fine Arts Center.

The jazz camp will be hosted by Gary Meggs, director of bands at UAM, and will run from July 14 through July 18. The camp will feature a week of intensive study and practice with world-class jazz teachers and musicians. High school jazz musicians from Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana and Tennessee are expected to attend the five-day camp.

Students attending the camp will present final performances on Friday, July 18 at 1 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center. The UAM faculty jazz band, featuring trumpeter Jay Meachum, will also perform. Friday’s performances are also free and open to the public.
