UAM Sponsors Economic Education and Arkansas History Workshop for K-12 Teachers, July 22-24
Published by UAM News May 1st, 2008 in UAM News.The Center for Economic Education at the University of Arkansas at Monticello will offer a three-day economic workshop, “Everything Is Connected: Economics and Arkansas History,” for K-12 teachers July 22-24 at the Monticello Intermediate School.
The workshop will feature economic presentations, discussions, curriculum materials, and guest speakers to provide teachers with the skills they need to help their students develop a better understanding of Arkansas history through the perspective of economics. Award-winning economic educators will conduct curriculum sessions featuring interactive, grade-level applications of economic concepts.
The UAM Center for Economic Education is affiliated with Economics Arkansas. Economics Arkansas and its affiliated centers assist K-12 teachers by providing resources and training to enable educators to teach “real-life” economics. One hundred and three Arkansas school districts are formally affiliated with the Economics Arkansas/Economics America program.
The workshop is designed for K-12 educators in all content areas. Participants must be under contract for the 2008-09 school year with an Arkansas public or private school district. Participants will receive curriculum materials appropriate to their grade level and subject matter. Upon successful completion of the workshop, participants will receive a stipend of $150 and a credit letter for 18 hours of staff development, including two hours of Arkansas history credit. Three hours of graduate credit is also available for participants who are interested in enrolling in the workshop as a graduate course. Additional assignments, extended hours beyond the 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. workshop meeting time, and tuition will be required for graduate credit.
