First-time freshmen and transfer students will be welcomed to the University of Arkansas at Monticello with a week-long schedule of events August 17-21 to ease the transition to college life.
Welcome Week begins with check-in at the residence halls at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 17. Students living on campus will go to their assigned residence hall, meet the resident director and resident assistant and receive their room keys.
All new freshmen are required to attend one of two orientation sessions on Monday, August 18. Freshmen whose last names begin with A through J will attend the first session at 10 a.m. in the Fine Arts Center. Freshmen with last names beginning with K through Z will attend the second session at 1 p.m., also in the Fine Arts Center. Orientation for new transfer students is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19 at 9 a.m.
Part of the orientation sessions will include “The Ultimate Road Trip,” which will focus on successfully managing the transition from high school to college, tips for time management, academic success, and involvement in extracurricular activities.
An Organization Fair will be held Monday, August 18 from 12:30 - 3 p.m. in the John F. Gibson University Center to acquaint new students with campus organizations, clubs, and fraternities and sororities.
An open registration for classes will be held August 19 beginning at 8 a.m. in Harris Hall. Classes for the fall term begin on Wednesday, August 20.
Other activities for the week include “The Money Tree” game show from 7:30 - 9 p.m. on August 20 in the University Center; a sand volleyball tournament August 21 from 3 p.m. until dark at the intramural field; and a progressive dinner, also on August 21 at the intramural field, beginning at 5 p.m.
