Blair Smyth of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina (center) was recently selected to receive the 2007-08 Outstanding Senior Award by the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s School of Forest Resources.

The award was presented at a recent awards reception for the School.  Smyth, a wildlife management major, has participated in various undergraduate research projects and made award-winning presentations at the Arkansas Academy of Science. He is the current holder of the Larry Willett and Henry Humphrey Memorial Scholarships. Smyth will return to UAM as a graduate student in the fall. OUTSTANDING GRADUATE STUDENT – Tiffany Whitsitt of Chickasha, Okla., was recently named the 2008 Outstanding Graduate Student in the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s School of Forest Resources and the Arkansas Forest Resources Center.  Her work on small mammal community relations on the Bob White Memorial Wetlands Research and Teaching Station also recently won the outstanding presentation award at the annual meeting of the Arkansas Academy of Science.  She is a member of The Wildlife Society and The UAM Graduate Council.  She was instrumental in founding the School of Forest Resources Graduate Student Organization.  Since coming to UAM she has also co-taught at the undergraduate level.  Dr. Richard Kluender (left), dean of the School of Forest Resources in making the award said, “Tiffany represents all that we look for in quality graduate students.  She has grown professionally, and represented the University well.  Her research is a significant contribution to understanding wetlands in Arkansas.  We are fortunate to have her.” Also pictured is (right) Dr. Phillip Tappe, associate dean.
