UAM Rodeo Tops the Region Rankings

The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women’s Rodeo Team has reached the No. 1 ranking in the latest Ozark Region Rodeo Standings, while the men’s team came in at the No. 3 position.

The women’s team has close to a 100-point lead on its closest competitor for the top spot, which is Missouri Valley College with 945 points, which falls short to UAM’s 1,855 points.

Leading the way individually for the women’s team is sophomore Lana Chastain (Drasco, Ark.), who tops out the standings in the goat tying division with 610 points. Following close behind her in second place is UAM teammate Megan Fisher (Dewitt, Ark.) who has 475 points.

Chastain is also the women’s all-around category leader with 830 points as well as tied for third in the breakaway roping category with 220 points.

The UAM men’s rodeo team (2,445 points) is currently ranked third in the region behind the University of Tennessee-Martin (3,405 points) and Missouri Valley College (3,555 points)

Junior Wesley Brunson (Terry, Miss.) is currently in second place in the men’s all-around category with 965 points. Brunson is in second place in steer wrestling with 390 points, fourth place in tie-down roping with 255 points, and third place in team roping heeler with 320 points

Junior Billy Brunson (Terry, Miss.) is leading the UAM team in the tie-down roping category and is third overall with 290 points. He is also third place overall in the team roping header with 320 points.

In the bull-riding category, freshman Cody Harrington (Sheridan, Ark.) is currently ranked third with 230 points.

The next event in the Ozark Region is March 6, 2008 at Mississippi State University and will last until March 8.
