Three political science students at the University of Arkansas at Monticello presented original research at the 2018 Pi Sigma Alpha National Conference February 16-17 in Washington D.C. Pi Sigma Alpha is the national collegiate honor society for political science students.

Hunter Hall of Rison, Dylan McClain of Monticello and Zachery Birdsong of Horatio were among 100 undergraduate researchers chosen from 600 Pi Sigma Alpha chapters nationwide to present research at the conference.

Conference participants took part in group discussions, networking opportunities, career workshops to help them prepare for graduate school or the workforce, and heard a lecture by Paul Begala, Democratic strategist and CNN commentator.

Hall was chosen to give a 20-minute conference presentation of his political science research paper entitled “The Application of Leadership and the Critical Role of the Advisor.” Hall’s paper explored prominent theories of political leadership.

Hall, Birdsong and McClain were also invited to discuss their research with Senator John Boozman in order to highlight the success achieved by UAM students through their pursuit of in-depth, undergraduate research projects.
