Arkansas school teachers can learn Spanish in a new course being offered in July at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
The graduate level course will involve both home study and on-campus classes using Rosetta Stone language development software. Participants will meet for class on the UAM campus July 16-18, July 21-24, and July 31.
The course, which is limited to 30 participants, is open to any licensed Arkansas teacher at any grade level.  UAM will provide free graduate tuition, the Rosetta Stone software – valued at $500 – and a $150 stipend to each teacher. The tuition, software and stipend are part of a No Child Left Behind Grant awarded to the UAM School of Education and School of Arts and Humanities. Participants will be required to pay university fees and their own transportation, meals, and lodging, if needed.
The course will be taught by Isabel Bacon, instructor of Spanish. Students will be taught how to use the software while on campus and complete assignments at home. One Saturday follow-up session will be held during the fall and spring semesters.
For more information, contact Kim Level, grant director, at the UAM School of Education at (870) 460-1362.
