UAM Is A Host Site For K-12 Portal Created For Educators and Researchers
Published by UAM News July 29th, 2008 in UAM News. The Council of University of Arkansas Research Libraries (CUARL) has created the K-12 Education Portal to help teachers and students locate and use K-12 learning resources developed by UA campuses as well as by other organizations throughout the state and beyond. The Taylor Library and Technology Center at the University of Arkansas at Monticello will serve as a host site for the portal.
Each site is hosted by a UA institution or by a state association, government agency, state educational institution, or other organization that provides substantial information about the state. Web sites of individuals within these organizations are also included since many college faculty organize useful resources in their own fields and develop teaching materials for K-12. Preference is given to institutes, centers, associations, agencies, and nonprofit groups.
Much of the material described on the portal is free, but some content and continuing education offerings require fees. Commercial or partisan sites are not included in the database.
The contents of each site on the portal are described briefly, and select keywords are suggested so that educators, parents, and students can use the “search” feature to find institutional sites that fulfill their interests. For those seeking a CUARL member’s main Web site, the emblems of the CUARL institutions at the bottom of the main portal site link to their own home pages. Librarians and staff from the CUARL libraries are available to assist researchers with their needs.
The portal is still in its trial stage, and UA officials welcome comments concerning its usefulness. The link to the Portal is: http://www.libinfo.uark.edu/cuarl/k12portal/
