UAM Hosts 30th Regional Math Competition
Published by UAM News April 3rd, 2008 in UAM News.One hundred and seventy-eight students representing 10 local school districts participated in the 30th annual Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics regional contest March 10-14 at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
Students competed in five categories, with the winners in each category eligible to participate in the ACTM state mathematics contest to be held April 26 in Conway.
The top three competitors by category were:
• Algebra I – (First) Taylor Ashcraft, Warren Middle School; (Second) Justin Hall, Warren Middle School; (Third) Rachel Church, Warren Middle School;
• Algebra II – (First) David Singh, McGehee High School; (Second) Andrew Shirley, DeWitt High School; (Third) Hannah Norton, Warren High School;
• Geometry – (First) Susan Kiernan, Star City High School; (Second) Kim Wimberly, McGehee High School; (Third) Kyle Sparks, Warren High School;
• Trig/Precalculus – (First) Thomas Judkins, Monticello High School; (Second) Jonathan Smart, Abiding Faith Christian School; (Third) Keena Dickey, Crossett High School;
• Calculus – (First) Nathaniel Lamb, Abiding Faith Christian School; (Second) Samuel Boren, Star City High School; (Third) Kalib Boyette, Star City High School.
Winners at the state contest will receive graphing calculators or cash scholarships.
