UAM gearing up for first week of school

Faculty and professional staff at the University of Arkansas at Monticello began gearing up for the 2007-08 school year last week with meetings, seminars and guest speakers as part of the university’s annual Professional Development Week.

New faculty and staff participated in orientation sessions before being introduced to the rest of the university community. Featured speaker for the week was Mark Hagemeier, associate general counsel of the University of Arkansas System, who discussed legal issues facing higher education.

UAM Chancellor Jack Lassiter addressed the state of the university, highlighting challenges and opportunities for the institution as it nears its 2009 centennial celebration. Lassiter and his wife, Judy, hosted a picnic – moved indoors to avoid the heat – for all faculty and staff.

UAM begins classes for the fall semester on Wednesday.
