Jordan Frizzell of Star City and Paisley Palsa of Monticello are the first recipients of a new academic scholarship being offered by the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
            Frizzell and Palsa were selected to receive the UAM EAST Scholarship, presented to outstanding high school students who have participated in the Environmental and Spatial Technology (EAST) initiative offered at high schools throughout Arkansas and across the nation.
            Frizzell participated in the EAST initiative at Star City High School for four years, demonstrating proficiency in architectural design, Photoshop graphics, ArcView Geographical Information Systems, and Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. He has part of a school mapping project using geographic positioning system technology, and a deer research project that determined which food plots attract deer.
            Palsa was the projects and community relations director for the Monticello High School EAST initiative. She was also a member of the EAST National Conference Team and an instructor for the summer EAST Enrichment Camp. Some of her EAST projects included creating and designing the MHS football program, designing the MHS website, podcasting, and rural broadband.
            The UAM EAST Scholarship is presented annually to a graduating senior who participated for at least two years in the EAST initiative which in high school. The scholarship covers tuition for 15 semester hours of course credit, excluding summer terms, and is renewable by maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on 12 semester hours and providing 10 hours per week of voluntary assistance in either the UAM Information Technology or Spatial Analysis laboratory.
