UAM Announces 2012 Homecoming Schedule

The dedication of a new forestry annex, the presentation of the 2012 Alumni Awards for Achievement and Merit, and the annual Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet highlight the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s homecoming celebration October 11-13.

UAM will dedicate the George H. Clippert Forest Resources Annex on October 12 at 2 p.m. The facility is named for the late George H. Clippert of Camden, a long-time benefactor of the UAM forestry program. The dedication will include tours of the new facility as well as the renovated areas of the existing forest resources complex.

UAM will present the 2012 Alumni Awards for Achievement and Merit to five alumni at the A&M / UAM Alumni Awards Dinner on October 12 at 7 p.m. in the John F. Gibson University Center. This year’s award recipients are Lieutenant Colonel Tommie Brasfield, Provost Marshal of the 39th Brigade Combat Team of the Arkansas National Guard; Teresa Marks of Little Rock, director of the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality; retired insurance executive M. L. Mann, Jody Clements, superintendent of the Kilgore (Tex.) School District; and Judge Gene Mazzanti. The university will also present the Continuing the Connection Award to Dr. W. J. McKiever. Tickets to the dinner are $15 per person and may be purchased at the door or by contacting the Office of Alumni Affairs at (870) 460-1028.

The Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet will be held October 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the University Center. This year’s inductees are softball and women’s basketball coach Alvy Early, softball pitcher Lindsey (Kight) Carmical, baseball pitcher Gene Franklin, and former football stars Charles Grassi and the late Don Sawyer. George Harris will receive the UAM Spirit Award. Tickets to the banquet are $35 and may be purchased by calling the UAM athletics office at (870) 460-1058.

Thursday, October 11

 

4 p.m. Homecoming Parade / Pep Rally – A parade around the UAM campus, concluding with a pep rally at the University Center gymnasium.

 

5:30 p.m. UAM Sports Hall of Fame Reception – Chancellor’s Home. Open to all alumni and friends of the university.

 

6:30 p.m. UAM Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet – University Center. Rex Nelson, master of ceremonies.

 

Friday, October 12

 

2 p.m. George H. Clippert Forest Resources Annex Dedication, including tours of the new and renovated facilities.

 

6 p.m. A&M / UAM Alumni and Friends Welcome Home Reception – Chancellor’s Home. Open to all alumni and friends of the university.

 

7 p.m. A&M / UAM Alumni Awards Dinner – University Center, including presentation of the Alumni Awards for Achievement and Merit.

 

Saturday, October 13

 

8:30 a.m. A&M / UAM Letterman’s Club Breakfast – Indoor Practice Facility, room 107.

 

9 a.m. A&M / UAM Class of 1962 Alumni and Friends Reunion Breakfast “Celebrating 50 Years” – Senate Room, University Center.

 

9:30 a.m. A&M / UAM African-Amercan Alumni Reunion Breakfast – Capitol Room, University Center. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and may be purchased by calling Classie Jones-Green at (870) 536-9159.

 

10 a.m. School of Forest Resources Reunion Brunch – Atrium, Clippert Forest Resources Annex. Open to all alumni and friends of the School of Forest Resources.

 

11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

 

• A&M / UAM Alumni “Meet and Greet” Reunion – Tailgate area adjacent to Weevil Pond. All alumni and friends are invited to the UAM alumni tent for heavy appetizers and information about upcoming alumni trips and programs.

 

• Weevil Tailgate Parties – Tailgate area adjacent to Weevil Pond.

 

• Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity Reunion – Tailgate area adjacent to Weevil Pond.

 

• 1990-96 Baseball Teams Reunion – Tailgate area adjacent to Weevil Pond.

 

• A&M / UAM Knights 50-Year Reunion – Tailgate area adjacent to Weevil Pond.

 

12:30 p.m. Football “Weevil Walk of Champions” – Tailgate area adjacent to Weevil Pond.

 

2:30 p.m. Pre-game Ceremony – Convoy Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium. Featuring the introduction of the 2012 homecoming court and coronation of the homecoming queen.

 

3 p.m. Kickoff, UAM vs. Ouachita – Convoy Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium.

 

Halftime Performance by the Pride of Southeast Arkansas marching band, introduction of the Hall of Fame inductees and the Class of 1962.
