UAM Alpha Chi Chapter Receives National Honor

The University of Arkansas at Monticello’s Arkansas Zeta Chapter of Alpha Chi national college honor society is one of 28 chapters nationwide recently selected to receive a Star Chapter Award for the 2006-07 academic year.
            Star Chapter Awards are presented to chapters who meet a set of criteria set by the national organization, including attendance at regional and national conventions, student presentations, scholarly programs sponsored on each chapter’s campus, new members inducted, and applications to two of Alpha Chi’s national scholarship programs.
            UAM’s Arkansas Zeta Chapter is one of three from Arkansas selected to receive Star Chapter Awards. The others are John Brown University and Lyon College. UAM’s selection is it third in as many years.
            Membership in Alpha Chi is restricted to students in the upper 10 percent of the junior and senior classes who have completed a minimum of 62 hours and have compiled a grade point average of 3.6 or better. Membership is by invitation, is limited to students actively seeking a degree, and is open to students from all academic disciplines.
            Founded in 1922, Alpha Chi has more than 300 chapters at colleges and universities across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
