Five agriculture students from the University of Arkansas at Monticello participated in the 2008 Southern Agricultural Economics Association Quiz Bowl competition held recently in Dallas, Texas. 
            Sara Beth Waller of Hickory Plains was a member of the first runner-up team and Bryan McDuffie of Greenville, Mississippi was a member of the second runner-up team. 
            Quiz Bowl is an undergraduate student activity of the Southern Agricultural Economics Association that tests student knowledge over eight categories: microeconomics, macroeconomics, resource/policy, quantitative, agribusiness/finance, marketing, management, and potpourri. 
            Students are assigned to two-to-three person teams with no more than one team member from a single university.  Forty-four students from 10 universities comprised the 15 mixed teams in the 2008 competition.  In addition to UAM, students competed from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville, University of Florida, Louisiana State University, Mississippi State University, North Carolina A&T University, Oklahoma State University, Texas A&M University, University of Tennessee-Martin, Tennessee Tech University, and Virginia Tech University. 
            Representing UAM were Paige Bolin of Pine Bluff; Chris Bryant of Monticello; Corey Bryant of Monticello; Bryan McDuffie of Greenville, Mississippi; and Sara Beth Waller of Hickory Plains.  Faculty advisor for the UAM participants was Dr. Bob Stark, who also served as a judge and reader during parts of the competition.
