The story below posted on June 16, 2008.
Just before 10 p.m. Monday night, two robberies took place near the intersection of 425 and 278 in Monticello.
Bonds have been set for the four men arrested.
The first crime involved a man who was washing his car at the car wash across from Waffle-Inn. Two men reportedly asked him for a cigarette, and when he turned back around two other men were also there. The victim suffered injuries to his face from the attack, and a small amount of cash was taken. According to reports, no weapons were involved in either robbery, but physical violence did take place.
Around the same time, two men from out of state, who were staying at Day’s Inn, behind the car wash, were accosted by four men matching the same description as the first robbery. At least one of these men were beaten, as well.
Local police relayed a description of the vehicle to surrounding agencies. Warren police soon responded with visual contact on the vehicle, and waited for the men to leave a residence and return to the car.
The four suspects approached the vehicle around 11 p.m., and were taken into custody by Warren police. The four suspects were transported back to Monticello and are being held in the Drew County Detention Facility, each is charged with at least one count of robbery.
The suspect were identified Monday morning as Robert Payne, Eric Rideout, and Marcus Proctor, Delvin Morris.
In first appearance hearings Monday, Payne and Rideout had bonds of $100,000 each set ; while Proctor and Morris are being held in lieu $25,000 bonds, in order to be released from jail.
