Trash Truck Back in Service
February 14th, 2011 by Joe Burgess
After being out of service for around 2 weeks, due to a broken internal rail, Monticello’s front loading trash truck was back in service late last week.
It arrived and began catching up on businesses dumpsters late Wednesday, and was still making it’s round Thursday, as the snow was falling.

Trash Truck Breakdown Affects Approximately 60 Monticello Businesses

A week ago, the “side-loading” trash truck that serves approximately 60 Monticello businesses, was disabled by a broken internal support rail.
The repair facility, in Little Rock, was notified last Monday, and an appointment was made for the truck to be delivered to them on Wednesday.
Repairs are estimated to be done in 5-8 days. The truck could be returned to service in Monticello this Wednesday or Thursday.
Until then, sanitation workers are attempting to serve customers by removing some trash from the dumpsters onto flatbed trailers to be disposed of.
This does not affect the “front-loading” dumpsters at other businesses.
It was also noted the city has been modifying side-load dumpsters into front-load dumpsters in recent months, but this is a slow process, since each dumpster takes 4 to 6 hours to convert. (The side-loaders have a ‘hook bracket” on the front, as shown in the photos, here. The front-loaders have a “boxed catch” on the side of the dumpster.)
The city plans to service all dumpsters the first day that the truck is returned to service in Monticello

How about leasing a truck in the interim or having an older, well used but still operable, less expensive truck on hand for such incidents? You might even be able to subcontract a truck from a nearby competitor.
Andy, Monticello doesn’t have a spare traffic light on hand much less an extra garbage truck.
heck the city spends to much money elseware, like oh for instance the square, nuthing was wrong with it. my grandmother always told me if it ant broke dont fix it…..
Thank God every day the forefathers of Monticello had the wisdom to fight for UAM. Any town that has a college or military base might see hard times but they will usually stand the test of time. Need I mention Warren, Dumas or other small towns in the area?
I guess it is easy for me to sit back and snipe behind my computer. There is a lot of good in Monticello. My mother grew up here and I got a degree at UAM. Business owners were willing to employee me during college when I really needed it.
I agree chris. There was nothing wrong with the square. We could have used that money elsewhere. That is not going to bring more business into downtown. They could have put that money towards stoplights. that would have made going around the square more pleasant at least.
Please andy. Warren has stood the test of time just like anyone else in the SEARK part of the state. To be a college town, Monticello shows little to no growth at all. We are in the same shape as everyone else here in monticello as the rest of south arkansas.
