The Drew County Museum will soon be announcing a book signing for Dr. James Willis, a Monticello native.

The time has not yet been set as there are pre-sales still in progress. The book will cost $25.95 unless it has to be shipped. In this case, 5 extra dollars will be added for shipping and handling.

Your museum will get part of the proceeds for each book sold, and your help to support the museum is very important.

Dr. Willis is a retired professor emeritus from Murray State University, and this is his 2nd book.  He is noted by national historians for his research skills in his previous nonfiction book:  THE ARKANSAS CONFEDERATES IN THE WESTERN THEATER .

His new book is called THE OTHER SIDE OF SILENCE, and it has characters with current Monticellonian’s names, is set in Drew County at the outbreak of the Civil War, and is fiction, based on facts about the Arkansas 9th Infantry, which had many Drew County men in its ranks. They left from Pine Bluff headed to Gaines Landing, and they fought in KY, TN, MS, AL, GA, and they finally surrendered in North Carolina.

To order, call 870-723-2352 and ask for Beth Thurman, to make arrangement about how many books you wish to purchase and your manner of payment. Checks need to be made out to the Drew County Historical Society.
