Strong Women
August 11th, 2009 by Drew County Offices Strong Women, a strength training program for mid-life and older women and men, will begin in September. The Strong Women program helps participants increase strength, increase bone density, increase balance, increase energy, and helps them to look and feel better. Program participants have also reported reduced depression and improved sleep.
The Strong Women program is a powerful antidote to the loss of muscle mass and the development of chronic disease which occurs as we age. The program was developed after years of research at Tufts University.
Strong Women is open to all eligible persons without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, marital or veteran status, or any other legally protected status. Persons with disabilities who require alternative means for communication of program information (large print, audiotapes, etc.) should notify the county Extension office as soon as possible prior to the activity.
Strong Women will meet on Tuesdays and Thursday beginning September 1 at 9 a.m. in the youth building at the First Assembly of God Church on Hwy 425 N. An evening group will begin on Tuesday, September 8 at 5:30 p.m.; a location is being secured at the present time. There is a fee of $12 to participate in the course.Â
Interested individuals should contact the Drew County Extension office at 460-6270 to pre-register. Each participant must complete a pre-course assessment and required paperwork prior to the class. The assessment will
be repeated at the end of the course; this will provide proof of improvements in body strength.
Participants may need to purchase 2, 3, or 5 pound dumbbells to begin. Adjustable ankle weights and an exercise mat or towel are also needed by each participant.
Contact the Drew County Cooperative Extension Service soon as space is limited!
