State Expected to Seek Death Penalty in Capital Murder Case

Monday, in Drew County Circuit Court, it was stated that the the prosecution is expected to seek the Death Penalty for the March 2014 shooting death of a 29 year old Southeast Arkansas woman, outside of local grocery store.
Jonathan Woods, of Warren, is accused of killing Samantha Poole, age 29 of Rison, following a domestic altercation inside of a Monticello business.
Woods and Poole, according to Arkansas State Police, arrived at Save-a-lot together, that day. She entered the store, and went to the back; where he followed her, dragging her back outside by the hair.
Woods, reportedly, then pulled out a 380 handgun, firing it once on the parking lot, before they left.
Monticello Police and Drew County Sheriff’s Deputies quickly arrived, blocking them on Trotter Street, where Woods shot Ms. Poole. Woods was then shot by an officer, but Ms. Poole had already sustained deadly injuries from the Woods’gun shots.
Woods was represented by atty. Robert Depper, Monday, who told Judge Sam Pope that the defense plans to use a “mental disease/defect defense.”
The jur trial is set for September 28-October 2
