The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team capped off its spring off-season with a final scrimmage resulting in the defense posting a 36-25 victory.

Quarterback Casey Cathcart led the Weevils in a 50-yard drive capped off by a one-yard touchdown run by Ronnie Herron to bring the offense back to within seven points at 32-25, but Scooter White intercepted a Scott Buisson pass during the final possession to end the chances of a come-from-behind victory.

The defense jumped on the offense early, forcing two three and outs by pressuring the quarterback. On the first play of the scrimmage, Denzel Isaac brought down Buisson in the backfield for a five-yard loss. Isaac finished the game with two sacks and four total tackles.

Larry White found himself near the ball carrier on several plays, racking up nine tackles, four of which were solo.

Buisson and Cathcart split time taking snaps, but Buisson came away with the better numbers, including 90 yards through the air and 55 yards on the ground for a total of 145 yards in the game.

From the backfield, Johnny Polite led the rushing attack with 75 yards, including a 42-yard touchdown run.

Quincy Lucas also had a productive game from the backfield, picking up 58 yards on the ground, while Herron finished with 54 yards and a touchdown run.

Buisson and receiver Jwyin Ceaser were on the same page, as the pair hooked up through the air five times for a total of 64 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown toss in the second quarter.

The Boll Weevils open the 2008 season on Saturday, Aug. 30 at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, starting at 6 p.m.
