darbi.jpgThere will be a gospel singing benefit to help Darbi, with her medical bills, May 10th at 6:00, at the First Baptist Church in Hamburg.  Mike Hall will be the master of ceremonies.  Heartland will be the featured group, along with Darbi, and several other groups in our area.

Darbi Scott is the 16 year old daughter of Jeff and Connie Scott in Hamburg, AR. At age 13, Darbi began having severe migraine headaches. Over 2 ½ years the headaches became more debilitating and occurred 2-4 times per week along with other neurological symptoms.

She was only able to attend school about 2 days per week. She was seen at Arkansas Children’s Hospital for the 2 ½ years where she endured painful tests and treatments with no success.  She was taken to a specialty brain and spinal cord hospital in New York City called the Chiari Institute. She was diagnosed with Tethered Spinal Cord Syndrome with syringomyelia, which is a rare neurological disorder caused by tissue attachments that limit the movement of the spinal cord within the spinal column These attachments cause an abnormal stretching of the spinal cord which caused a downward displacement of her brain thru the opening at the base of the skull causing pressure on her brain stem and caused a fluid cyst to form inside her spinal cord.

This is a progressive disorder which if undiagnosed can lead to permanent nerve damage and paralysis. Darbi underwent surgery on January 4, 2008 in New York.

The Scott’s insurance will not cover all the medical expenses for the expensive surgery since they were forced to seek treatment out of network. The doctors were able to correct the problem. After a lengthy recovery,

Darbi is now able to resume her life as a healthy, happy teenager. Darbi and her family have a strong faith which got them thru this ordeal. God provided the guidance and help that they needed to find help for Darbi.
