Sheriff’s Dept. Stepping Up Patrols on New Years Eve.
Published by Joe Burgess December 31st, 2007 in Police /Legal.Drew County Sheriff, Mark Gober, said today that the Sheriff’s Dept. is increasing patrols tonight, in an effort to eliminate drunk drivers.
“Expect roadblocks from multiple agencies, including the State Police, we’re trying to keep the roads safe for all of our citizens,” said the Sheriff.
“People who drink alcohol need to be responsible enough not to get behind the wheel,” he added, “No fatalities will be a great transition, as we begin a new year.”

Why is alcohol not illegal? Apparently it is so dangerous that we need to have special police patrols to find those who drink it and drive before they kill someone. Do you have any idea how many people are killed each year by alcohol? And tobacco is even worse, yet it is sold in every store and grocery store in the state, and used by even our most upstanding citizens.
In contrast, marijuana has never killed anyone in the 6000-years of its recorded use, yet the prisons are full of marijuana smokers. Why the hypocrisy?
Anyone?
Alcohol was illegal during prohibition. The crime that ensued was legendary and rendered prohibition ineffective. But I agree alcohol and tobacco are bad.
Im glad they had a special patrol for people that drive drunk. I think they should also have special patrols for people that get stoned and drive too.
Marijuana hasnt killed anyone in 6,000 years? How do you know? Dont you smoke it in order to injest it? Isnt that bad on the lungs? For one to make that assertion, wouldnt you have to have a synopsis of the cause of death of of every marijuana smoker- ever?
Marijuana is illegal in part because it is a gateway drug, just like alcohol and tobacco are. I’d rather have one gateway drug outlawed than none at all. Maybe when congress gets done with worrying about steroids in baseball, they can tackle the tobacco and alcohol issue.
Lastly, I am somewhat familiar with prison and the people inside it and I dont know of anyone in prison for simply smoking marijuana. Selling it maybe, but not for smoking, as simple possession is a class a misdemeanor, thus punishable by a 1,000 fine and a maximum jail- not prison- sentence of one year.

And I’m not so sure about the prisons being full of marijuana users, it is more the harder drugs, but it is illegal. Become a supeme court judge and maybe you can change the law. We just abide by them!!!! The majority of us anyway….
you must not have anything better to do either, lol
