Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober this week told MonticelloLive that there had been a series of “deer camp” break-ins.  Gober described around 9 burglaries over a 3 day period.

The Sheriff’s Dept. is investigating each scene, and is attempting to locate a suspect.

When asked, Sheriff Gober said that some weapons were taken, and pointed out that especially with the rash of break-ins, it’s best not to leave guns at deer camps.

Most of the burglaries took place south of Collins Road.

Any information about the person or persons responsible should be reported to the Drew County Sheriff’s Dept., by calling 367-6211.

The Sheriff encourages everyone with campsites located around the area to inspect their camps, and report any criminal activity, as well as abnormal vehicle traffic.

If the owners of these deer camps didn’t leave their guns and ammo, that would be one less reason for somebody to break into them…But if somebody wants something bad enough, it wouldn’t matter if their were guns or not, they would just steal what ever they think they could get away with!

I worked at a deer camp. When men go hunting, they pack more than women do for a week trip. It would be like moving every time they went hunting. But i agree they should take their guns and valuables home with them.
