Sales and use tax initiative passes

After yesterday’s special election for the city of Monticello, the votes are in, with 482 voting for the 15-year one-cent sales tax and 275 voting against. The turnout was actually lower than the 1997 election, in which 613 voted in favor of the tax then, with 345 voting against it.

According to the Drew County Clerk’s office,

Early Vote:  For 167;   Against 126
Absentee:   For 9;        Against 6
Ward 1:       For 55       Against 35
Ward 2:       For 114     Against 53
Ward 3:       For 48        Against 32
Ward 4:       For 89        Against 23
