A house fire on the far south end of Gabbert Street, had the street and nearby intersection closed for a couple of hours Sunday night.

The house was reported to have been unoccupied at the time of the fire, but actually had a resident there when the fire began, who left to call for help.

The property reportedly beolongs to Mattie Tucker, and appears to be a total loss.

There were flames coming out of the back of the reseidence when the fire dept. arrived, and probably was electrical in nature, starting in a back bedroom of bathroom.

The location of the residence was south of the curve, where Gabbert turns around the end of the Cedar Hill apartments.

The resident is believed to have relatives in the neighborhood.

Is there any fund or donations being taken for this family for Christmas dinner and/or presents? Do they belong to a church or is there a church already helping them with houseing, meals, ect?

Just an update for information on the person who owned the houes.
the House belonged to Mrs. Mattie Tucker, at the time of the fire, she was not home but at her sisters down the road. She has lost everything, as I spoke with her last night, she was in limbo as to what to do and stated she was feeling “lost”.
She is in need of clothing items….and soon will need everything else.
Lets help her out this christmas.
    Size 12 pants, medium shirts/blouses, 7 shoes……
Thanks to all who can give something. they have put a camper up besides the house where someone is staying, so things can be dropped off there. If anyone has ever experinced a fire, you know the lost feeling that goes along with it.
