Other items discussed at the Monticello Economic Development Commission included;

The “20 for the Future” is planning another trip to Washington D.C. in March, to draw attention to the needs of Southeast Arkansas.

In Washington, House Bill number 3043 is going to President Bush’s desk for his signature, but there is little hope that it will be signed, according to Governmental sources.  If it does go forward, the bill would provide $44,000.00 for Drew Memorial to update some of it’s “soft items”, such as software and that type of improvements.  20 for the Future was influential in getting the bill this far.

UAM Chancellor Jack Lassiter updated the group about the good progress of the construction of Wells and Sorrells Halls.

Dr. Lassiter also told us that local school enrollment was down, but that UAM’s enrollment is still impressive.

He also gave an update on “the Trotter House”, and told that it would be included in the “Holiday Tour of Homes.”
