Report from Monticello City Council Meeting, Part 1
Published by Joe Burgess November 15th, 2007 in City.The Monticello City Council met Thursday night at city hall, in their regular time for monthly business.
One item on the agenda was approving a resolution set a hearing date of December 20 for a public hearing at the city hall to close Union Street between Main and Church Streets. The petition is from First Baptist Church, and would allow the church to grow, without having to relocate.
There was a presentation by Cleo Thomas, representing the Eastside Concerned Citizens. The report asked for multiple improvement to the Jordan Park area, which will be covered in a follow-up article on MonticelloLive.com.
Kimberly Fletcher gave the city finance report. The report represents many positive aspects of the city’s usage of public monies. There will be a Follow up article on Ms. Fletcher’s report tomorrow.
Truman Hamilton was introduced as the new MEDC director, and it was announced that Derrill Pierce’s has completed his last day in the office. Mr. Pierce’s efforts to create a smooth transition are greatly appreciated.
John Green asked for a street closing on David Lane. This process has proceedures that will need to take place, before council action.
