10 Year Old Southwest Regional Cal Ripken Tournament To Be Played In Monticello in July

feathersonshepardsmith.JPG

With the February contract signing shown above, Monticello will be the site of the 10 year old Southwest Regional Cal Ripken Division of the Babe Ruth League.

Pictured above are Joe Featherston, Southwest Regional Commissioner; Jerald Sherpherd, President of the Drew County Cal Ripken League; and Charles Davis, Arkansas South Assistant State Commissioner of the Babe Ruth Baseball League.

Plans are for the tournament to be a 10 team, double elimination tournament, hosted by the Drew County Cal Ripken league. The Monticello Cal Ripken team will be invited as well.

The tournament dates are set for July 17th, 2008, for check-in at Jordan Park, with games to begin on July 18th.

The winner of this tournament will move on to play in the League’s World Series, which will be held in Abbeville, Louisiana. The tournament’s director is Robert Freeman.

The Southwest Region of the Cal Ripken Division includes state teams from North & South Arkansas; New Mexico; East, West, & South Texas; Louisiana; Oklahoma; Mississippi; and the Virgin Islands. Although all areas are eligible, all may not be in the tournament.

Once again, Monticello has risen to the occasion to draw an event like this, which is a compliment to the many supporters that make our local leagues achieve this level of success.

We are looking for a place to stay that has a place to cook-maybe a suite or apartment, or house for the week. If anybody has any ideas or suggestions I would be most appreciative, we are on a semi-limited budget. If you have kids and they travel then you know where I am coming from! Thanks!

I would like to say that I am a very proud fan and mom of the Drew County All Stars. Considering the fact that our fellas had never played in one tournament before the regional, they faced adversity of not having a pitcher or back catcher for their team, and few practices, they pulled off their two games like true champions. We could have scores like 25-0 or 9-0 or anything to 0, but they managed to recover in the first game with Daniel Pace, my son, hitting an outfielder to bring in four runs to stay alive in the game.

The second game, Daniel stepped up like a champ to pitch 5 innings with no experience at all. He never pitched for his team during the season nor was he consistently trained. However, the coaches trusted he’d do a well enough job to step in. So, thanks to the coaches.

Of course, all of our players began to get more confidence in the end and I was proud of them.

Hats off to our coaches for putting up with them and sometimes the children’s frustrations.

All I can say is, watch out next year. We are already getting ahead of the game and Drew County will be hard to get past next season.

Great job boys, GREAT ATTITUDES TOO and great job Pace twins… Gabriel began to hit like a champ and play great defense on 2nd base.

THE DREW COUNTY 10 YEAR ALL STARS ARE OUR CHAMPIONS!

Much Love to all of the team members….
    Sincerely,
    Daniel and Gabriel Pace’s Mom
    Clarissa
