Regional Agri Town Hall meeting to feature Ross, Etheridge
Published by UAM News August 13th, 2007 in State.Fourth District Congressman Mike Ross (D-Ark.) will host a Regional Agriculture Town Hall Meeting at the University of Arkansas at Monticello on August 24 at 10 a.m. in the Capitol Room of the John F. Gibson University Center. The meeting is open to the public.
Joining Rep. Ross will be North Carolina Congressman Bob Etheridge, chairman of the Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management of the House Agriculture Committee. Rep. Etheridge will be the keynote speaker for the event and will discuss the farm bill and farm commodities.
A native of Texarkana, Ross is currently serving his fourth term in Congress. He is a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the House Committee on Science and Technology. He was recently appointed to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s Parliamentary Assembly, where he represents the United States at meetings of the 26 NATO-member countries. A fifth-generation Arkansan, Ross was elected in 1990, at age 29, as the youngest member of the Arkansas State Senate, where he served for 10 years.
Etheridge has represented North Carolina’s Second District since 1997. He currently serves on the House Agriculture, Budget, and Homeland Security Committees.
“This is a great opportunity for farmers, ranchers and others connected with the agriculture industry in this region to discuss the issues and challenges they face on a daily basis,” said Dr. Kelly Bryant, chairperson of the UAM Division of Agriculture and director of the Southeast Research and Extension Center. “I would encourage anyone who has an interest in agriculture to attend this important meeting.”
