Piggly Wiggly Break-in Reported, Saturday Morning; Tobacco Superstore Case Reported Thursday

July 2nd, 2011 by

Two more break-in have been reported at Monticello businesses.

Saturday morning, Piggly Wiggly notified Monticello Police that their store had been burglarized.

Early Thursday morning, shortly after midnight, someone reportedly attempted to break into Tobacco Superstore, on HWY 425 North.  Nothing was reported taken in the Thursday break-in.

Both cases are under investigation by Monticello Police.

Anyone who notices suspicious vehicles, activity, or people is asked to contact MPD at 367-3411.

  1. hot and dry says:

well it seems alot of these break ins are with in the walmart area. if i was chief of police i would put a patrol car on duty after 10pm in this area. ive been up town 1pm and 2pm in the morning and never see a patrol car out. i know we dont have a big force but the ones that are on duty need to be out on patrol when crimes are going on in our city. someone has to be seeing something or they know something. i bet where these crimes are taken place that person or persons dont live far away from the crime site. lets come together and stop this madness. if i was a store owner i would put someone on watch after midnight. cause you never know where they are going to hit next.

  2. JohnJ says:

Hope whoever is doing all this breaking in is caught asap and punished. Punished as in being put on the town square and being slapped upside the head by anyone that wants to relieve some tension. Jus Sayn

  3. The Man in the Van says:

I’m glad I’m on my way out of here. This town will be a Dermott in the next 10 years or less. Just watch.

  4. hobitt says:

    Geez what is going on?

  5. MHS says:

I agree with you JohnJ!! Bet that would be embarrassing and maybe they would think twice about breaking into another place! That’s what’s wrong with things now. Criminals get a slap on the rist. Some good old fashion punishment is what the criminals need.

  6. Jo says:

Hot an dry… If you were chief of police you would need to learn how to tell time cause these crimes are not happening at 1pm and 2pm. I will have to say I have noticed the police step up but you have to keep in mind this is not CSI this is the real thing. So Chief Hot an Dry have a good day.

  7. wondering says:

I’m just wondering with all these break in’s lately what is this town coming to?? I mean first Sonic then all these other places what next??

  8. Leah says:

1PM and 2PM in the morning? There is no such thing.PM is afternoon and night. I like your thinking John. Would be nice if we could all have a turn si9nce they are worrying everyone in town.

  9. oyvay says:

My goodness, what is going on? I dont think I have ever seen anything like this in Monticello….

  10. Dianah111 says:

This problem will only get worse as gas, food and the prices of everything else on the planet continue to go up.

  11. hot and dry says:

OH MY GOODNESS… so i made a mistake and typed pm when i should of typed am. lock me up and throw away the key. But i think yall get the point. and i dont think i said the crimes where taken place at that time anyway. but i know ive been up town anywhere between the “1am and 2am” and havent seen patrolcars that was my point. and maybe we need some csi around here i bet the crimes would be solved in less the 48 hours. so JO i will have a great day and i only hope you have one as great as i will have. but thank you for pointing out my little mistake. i only wish the world could be as perfect as you thank you are.

  12. Aways lookin says:

Monticello is goin to b 1 bad town here for too long

  13. Wray S. Funn says:

Monticello is a great town and I think we will be OK because we all know that a few bad apples can appear to ruin the whole basket.

I like what JohnJ suggested (maybe not to that extreme, although it would be AWESOME if we could really smack the thiefs upside the head) about putting theifs on the town square and humiliating them.

If we all pulled together, we could actually have a city ordinance that could put thiefs on the town square with a placard around their necks as part of their punishment.

  14. Juss Sayin says:

I thought we had a curfew??? If we don’t, seems like we need one!!
May not help, but it might!
