I was very happy to hear the pool opened, until I took my children there today.
The first thing I noticed was little piles of blue around the edges of the pool. Not long after we were there I found out what the little piles were - strips of paint peeling from the bottom of the pool. Children were gathering up the pieces and sometimes stripping them off themselves to add to the collections.
Another thing I noticed today was the absence of the bleachers and awning. I am glad the bleachers are gone because they were a hazard for wet children to play on, but the awning is another story. That was a great place for me and other mothers to get out of the sun for a bit with our small children. I was glad to see that they have added a ramp going into the pool to make it handicap accessible. After observing small children playing on the ramp, it too could pose as a safety hazard. I know that the bleachers and the ramp are not meant for children to play on, but their purpose and what actually happens are two different things. They should make and enforce a few more safety rules.
All things aside, we had a great day swimming. I just hate that our tax dollars went to a pool full of peeling blue paint.
