Parks Report to City Council – Good News on Grant
February 22nd, 2012 by Mandy MossKaren Connelly gave the Parks and Recreation report and said that the City Park’s amphitheater’s final plans have been sent to the Arkansas Parks and Tourism Board. They approved the plans and then they were sent to an engineer. Once the engineer gets a cost analysis he will get the plans back to ETC and they will be open for bids.
The Parks and Recreation Commission is looking for grants and private donations to purchase a shuttle to help transport people at the Sports Complex. Liability insurance for the City on the shuttle has not been looked into at this time, but will be priced before purchasing a shuttle.

To the Citizens of Monticello,
If you think this is good news, maybe you should pay attention that 335,000 of your hard earned money that is paid for water- yes, water a basic fundamental need will be diverted to pay for parks and recreatiion. No, I am not taliking about the one cent sales tax- I am talking about our water fund is being used to maintain all this crazy spending our City Council does with our one cent sales tax. This amplitheater is a matching grant, plus we have to pay the engineers on top of this. That amplitheater will sit empty 99% of the time, and our City Council will continue to tax us, yes tax us by raising water rates every year to keep up with this circus we have created. Our water system will not see one bit of improvement until we plead poverty to the federal government. Shame, Shame Shame on all of us.
Do we not ever get to vote on anything or do we continue to take tax money and just spend it on any whim of the city council no matter what it costs or how much it will be used. After all we have to stay out of the heat of the summer and the cold of the winter. How much can we spend on things like this with the failing water and sewer system. I am from the old school, we take care of things needed and then if anything is left over, we go from there.
I agree why do we get water rate increases but the money is spent elsewhere. Why do we need something that will be used a couple of times a year. Our Mayor has sent this town in the wrong direction every since he has been in office.
