Parks Committee Considering Slide to Replace 30 Year Old Diving Board at City Pool
July 18th, 2012 by Mandy Moss
The Parks and Recreation Committee discussed the 30 year old diving board at the City Pool and its declining condition. Due to its current issues, the board needs to be replaced.
The financial burden of replacing the board was reported to be very costly due to the new foundation needed to install a board. There is also fear of creating more issues and causing further damage during the process of breaking up the old concrete.
Money saving options were presented, such as using a half-meter diving board, which would be lower to the ground, or doing away with the board all together and replacing it with a different feature, such as a slide, that does not have to be set as deeply in concrete.
“I would like to ask you to be very careful about this decision, because I’ve been out there and I’ve seen a lot of kids diving, and doing back flips…” “Maybe ask a lot of people.” – Mayor Maxwell
The Committee decided to research all available options and report back at a later date.

The swim meets needs a diving board. The Marlins needs a diving board. Why not just get a new diving board and a slide?
The kids need a diving board. If you want a slide put it somewhere else at the pool but not at the deep end!! This would benefit the older and younger kids that play there!!!
I am not against purchasing either item. In fact both would be great but fyi…the swim meets and teams do use the diving board. I think i am correct in saying that deep end is not used for swim team.
You just can not have a city pool with out a diving board. Having one is like a victory Over Giliath for some children. Just replace it and look at adding a slide to the 4 ft.
City pool won’t be the same anymore without a diving board.
