10 Year Old Becomes Christmas Example During “Shop with a Cop”

During Saturday morning’s “Shop with a Cop” sponsored by Walmart, Monticello Police officers took 23 children and teenagers shopping at Walmart, with $100 to spend on each one of them.
The officer that was with one 10 year old boy asked him, “Where do you want to start.” Most kids would answer toys or games, but this child’s reply was, “I want to buy my Mommy something for Christmas.” He wanted to buy her jewelry, so they went to that department and picked out a ring for her.
Next the officer asked him, “What do you want to get now.” His reply was, “I want to buy me something to wear for Christmas,” so off the clothes they went.

Around 8:30, Saturday, Drew County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Monticello Rescue Squad were dispatched to the report of a single vehicle wreck, where the driver was pinned inside of his Dodge pick-up, after striking a large tree.

Humane Society Leader Addresses City Council about Pit Bulls – Edited
December 21st, 2012 byRuby Burton, leader of the local Humane Society, spoke to the Monticello City Council, Thursday night about the problem with pit bull dogs, and their care, inside of the Monticello city limits.
A child had her ankle broken and other injuries, less than a month ago, in an incident covered statewide TV.
Burton estimated that there are 400 -500 pit bulls in East End, with many of them being hid by their owners. She also mentioned a problem with pit bulls in the Indian Mounds area.

Wednesday, afternoon temperatures were in the mid-70’s.
Now, they’re below 50 degrees.
Earlier this afternoon, a strong wind, out of the south ripped the metal roof of of this Midway Route home, near Wilson Mill Road. No one was at home at the time. The only other damage was a tree that was blown down.
Tonight, please take care of your pets, plants, and pipes, as overnight lows are forecast to drop into the 20’s.
That, my friends, is Southeast Arkansas weather.

Drew Central Students Viewed The Hobbit Movie

Drew Central Fourth Graders in Eva Arrington’s class have read the children’s classic The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. It was the fantasy epic of our time. Students and their parents met at the theater and viewed the movie as a group.
Students learned research skills when their curiosity led them to discovering the meaning and origin of runes. The students completed an in depth literature study using the novel and viewed the movie as a celebration. Upon returning to school, students wrote an opinion piece on which they liked best, the novel or the movie.

Local Girl Donates Dog Food To Shelter

When Sidney Burns celebrated her 6th birthday party, she decided to ask for dog food to help feed the local P.A.W.S. animal shelter instead of birthday presents.
She was able to donate eight big bags of dog food plus several cans and boxes. Sidney is the daughter of Farrah and Andy Burns, granddaughter of Brenda Wright Griffin, Danny Gossett, Wayvon and Brenda Burns and niece of Andrea Chambers, all of Monticello
