A camper trailer being used as a deer camp near Rye in Cleveland County, exploded around 8:30 pm, Friday night.
At 12:20, Monday afternoon, this loaded log truck was traveling toward Monticello, when its trailer’s fifth wheel pin plate pulled off, allowing the trailer to overturn, rolling it over onto the side of the roadway.
No one was injured.
Drew County Sheriff’s Deputies directed traffic through the 277/278 curve until 3 pm, when the wreck was clered.
Monticello FCCLA members, Hannah Kling and Kimberly Long, presented “Stranger Danger” to five different classes at Monticello Elementary school on October 30, 2013. They taught the children safety tips for trick-or-treating, created an ID card complete with finger prints, read a book, and presented them with goody bags filled with candy and information for their parents.

Pepsi Beverages Company of Monticello is holding a food drive November this week,to help support the “Feed the Kids” program that is sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church. We are asking for donations of Vienna Sausages, small cans of Spaghettios, and/or small cans of raviolis. Food Giant Cost Saver and Meagans Café have agreed to be drop-off locations. Donations can also be brought to the Pepsi warehouse located in the industrial park off of Hwy 35 E. Anyone with questions can call 870-367-9721, ext 0.
The “Feed the Kids” program packs 600 bags of food each month to be distributed to kids that are in grades K-8 at the Monticello and Drew Central School Districts. The organization operates primarily off of donations.

Remember back in February when Monticello got the new “automated” trash recepticles that could be dumped automitically by the trash truck? Remember the 4-5 pages that were wire-tied to the handle? One of those notes stated, “All trash must fit into cart and lid must close.”
With Veteran’s Day being Monday, and many family celebrations being planned, the City of Monticello has chosen this week to enforce that clause.

At 8:50 pm, Wednesday, the Monticello Fire Dept. was paged out to the report of a house fire on Parkwod’s Elm Court, off of North Hyatt St.
The Monticello School Board, in a called meeting earlier this week, approved a one time bonus of $1,000, for all full-time teachers and staff.
The bonus will be included with the November payroll.
Other employees will receive a pro-rated bonus.
The Monticello City Council, Monday night, gave final approval to the $10,000,000 water system improvement project.
The interest rate of 4.39%, and the payment will be around $600,000/year for 30 years, for a total of $18,000,000.
Imediately after the vote, Mayor Allen Maxsell to the council, “Everybody in the city is going to thank you.”
The Monticello Fire Dept. recently responded to the report of a hot tub fire, in the Mason Hill community.
The blaze, believed to be an electrical fire, was quickly extinguished.

No one was injured, Tuesday morning, when the driver of this City of Monticello work truck left the roadway, dumping a large portion of the load the truck was carrying into the ditch and driveway of SeaArk Marine.
City crews worked to re-open Trotter Street near the entrance to the City Shop.
With time running out in the final quarter, Dumas kicked a field goal to tie the game at 17-17.
The Bobcats got the ball first on the 10 yard line, but failed to score on three downs. The field goal attempt hit the upright and bounced to the ground.
The Billies then got the ball on the 10, followed by a touchdown run by Justin Berry, and the extra point that brought the game to a close.
A 27 year old Tillar man was killed at 6:22, Tuesday morning, after he had stopped to help victims at an automobile collision at HWY 65 and HWY388 in Lincoln County.

Bart Gregory, of Pure Pressure Power Washing, recently held a FaceBook contest to select the new paint scheme for his work van’s new paint job.
The winning design was ‘Scooby Doo’s Mystery Machine.”
Bart, who also does residential and commercial exterior painting (224-2045), admitts that has recently been accused of breathing too many paint fumes.

Wednesday afternoon, around 1:30, the Monticello Fire Dept. was called to put out a mobile home fire, that had started from a nearby fire in the yard.
It appeared that only minor damage was done to the trailer, thanks to the quick response of the first responders, who arrived at the Griffith St. address.
