Two University of Arkansas at Monticello students recently received honors in the annual Poets’ Roundtable of Arkansas Pat Laster Collegiate Poetry Contest. Jordan Self, a senior education major from Monticello, Arkansas, won first place with her poem “White Paint.” Mercedes McCool, a senior communication major from Bastrop, Louisiana, received an honorable mention for her poem “Jonesing.” Read the rest of this entry »

The Student Nurses Association (SNA) at the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) recently donated care packages valued at over $1,000 to the United States military troops through the Support Our Troops organization.
SNA, consisting of current students in the UAM School of Nursing, gifted snacks, personal hygiene products and more.
Ashlynn Baker, president of SNA at UAM, stated, “SNA’s goal was to enhance the morale and well-being of the deployed troops through items specifically requested by them. In each box, we also attached handwritten letters thanking troops for their service and sacrifices, along with printed and signed pictures of each of our members. Any time a child is abused or neglected, it is a tragedy. Unfortunately, it happens every day, in every community. The month of April is recognized across the nation as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
