One Monticello Life: Tom & Marsha Henry
Published by Joe Burgess June 29th, 2008 in Feature: OML.Tonight’s edition of One Monticello Life takes a look at a husband and wife, that between them, spent a total of 63 years working at Burlington.
Tom and Marsha Henry will celebrate their 47th anniversary later this year, are active members of Northside Baptist Church, and have raised 3 sons.
Marsha worked at Burlington for 25 years, spending 7 years in the tufting department at the carpet mill, before moving to the tufting dept. at the rug mill, where she completed her career at Burlington.
Tom spent 38 years employed at Burlington, beginning as a sewing helper at the carpet mill. He then moved into the position of supervisor over the coating dept, and eventually assumed the responsibility of Planning Dept. Manager, where he remained until retirement.
Tom was born in Northern Drew County (Montongo area), graduated from Monticello Schools, and earned a B.B.A. from UAM in Business Administration, before starting a long career at the mill.
Tom and Marsha have three adult sons; Mark lives in Greenville, MS.; Greg resides in Rogers, AR; and Todd, who lives in Gravette, AR.
The Henrys have been members of Northside Baptist for 9 years, where they set a good attendance example for the younger members. Tom even takes a monthly turn providing (usually cooking) a Wednesday evening meal.
Tom likes to hunt, garden, and spend time working in his “tree farm”.
Marsha enjoys antiques, and used to operate an antique store.
Tom has 3 dogs, and Marsha has 2 horses.
Their favorites are……..
Restaurants; His—Lena’s, Hers—Layne’s
TV show; His—Fox News, Hers—none
Movie; Both—Gone with the Wind, and The Giant, with Liz Taylor and Rock Hudson
Music; Both—Country
Book; Hers—Stephen King novels.
Sports Teams; Both—Razorbacks
Interesting things about Tom: He played baseball nearly everyday, when he was young. Tom also played organized softball at the same time that his 3 sons were in baseball leagues. Four guys from the same family playing ball is a special form of “bonding”.
Marsha has been to Hawaii several times visiting with family members. Tom went to Hawaii once, just to see what he was missing. He told me that “once was enough, though.”
