Nursing Facility Without Power, Since Monday Morning

“The Woods of Monticello”, a residential nursing care facility, lost electric power, yesterday morning around 9:30, like thousands of other Drew county Entergy customers.
Like everyone else, they are “making do,” but for a facility with 84 residents/patients, it has become quite an experience.
MLive spent some time, last night, with some of the staff and residents of the home, who seem to be adjusting to the “facility-wide bunking party,” caused by the power outage, better than most folks.
Administrator Cara Harris spent her time visiting with residents, who have been moved into the hallway, since the facility’s generator only lights the hallway, living area, and dining room.
It also provides electricity to specially marked “emergency plugs” in the hallway, to power medical equipment that some patients depend on.
Contrary to some rumors, patients are being well taken care of. The facility’s gas stoves are unaffected, and hot meals are still being served.
The residents, as well as staff, were each provided a flashlight, to retrieve items from their rooms, as needed, and seem to relatively enjoy the experience.
Harris told us, “We have consolidated and are making sure everyone is cared for. We have heat, water, food, supplies and staff.”
In closing, she added, “I want to thank the community for their concern and their offerings of support for our residents. ”
Entergy crews, as well as subcontractors, are working in the nearby area, and expect to have power restored to “The Woods” later today.
